Human Rights Fellowship Application


The application process will open on November 1 and close January 1, 2013. Applications submitted before November 1st or after January 1st will not be accepted. A Magnum Foundation appointed selection committee and New York University faculty will review applications. The five fellowship-winners will be selected and announced at the end of January 2013.


A complete application includes:

  • Application Cover
  • Sample Photo Project (15-20 images)
  • Short Written Essays and Sample Photo Project Description
  • Resume/CV with contact information for 2 references


APPLICATION MATERIALS

  3. Sample Photography Project
    Please upload 15-20 images from a project. Images must be saved at 72 dpi at 900 pixels wide.
  4. Image File Names: Last NameFirstName_001, 002, etc. (eg. SmithJohn_001.jpg)

  5. Short Written Essays and Sample Photo Project Description
  6. Please answer ALL the following questions in one PDF formatted-document. Please stay within a 150-word limit per question. Clearly indicate which question you are answering with A, B, C, and D.

    1. Why are you interested in creating documentary photography projects in pursuit of human rights? What motivates you?
    2. Please describe a human rights-related project that you have worked on, or another that has inspired you. It can be a photographic project or another type of initiative. What was the project's impact?
    3. Please describe at least 3 significant human rights issues in your home country. How might you apply the education you receive from this program to any of these issues in your home country?
    4. Please describe the Sample Photography Project that you have sent to us.

  8. Applicant must include educational background and work history in resume/CV. Please also provide email and phone numbers for two references. Format your resume/CV as a PDF.
