My project investigates the extent and effect of mercury poisoning in Kodaikanal, a city in Southern India where Unilever set-up a mercury thermometer factory in 1983. Due to the improper disposal of glass and other waste with residual mercury, surrounding forests and lakes were contaminated, the impact of which is still felt today. I am hoping to bring awareness to the public and challenge the decades-long silencing of Unilever.
