As we close out 2024, join us for our end-of-year event celebrating our global community of visual storytellers. The evening will also mark the opening of "A Tapestry of Aliveness," a new exhibition of work from our NYC Fellowship. With work about migration, sanctuary, chosen family, and belonging, the artists in this exhibition center tenderness and care in their approaches to imagemaking, and honor the places we find home.
The event will feature:
A collaborative mural performance by artists featured in the exhibition
Food, drink, and music
Books for browsing and sale
This event is hosted at the Magnum Foundation. We are grateful to our neighbors at Creative Time for also sharing CTHQ, their gathering space for art and politics, with us for the evening.

About the exhibition: Since 2011, Magnum Foundation’s New York City Fellowship has provided a launchpad for early-career photographers living and working in New York City. Recognizing the challenges of making a living as a working photographer, this fellowship serves a unique dual purpose: supporting the development of the fellows’ photographic projects, while also providing them with paid work experience in Magnum Foundation’s office.
Thirteen years and 32 fellows later, this diverse group of photographers has gone on to produce vibrant visual storytelling in and outside of New York City, while also playing crucial roles as teachers, organizers, and connectors in their communities.
In a new exhibition at the Magnum Foundation, entitled “A Tapestry of Aliveness,” a group of fellows come together in an exercise of collaborative co-curation, weaving their individual images together into a tapestry of New York City that expresses the ongoing acts of living, collectivism, and agency of communities that are often pushed to its margins. With work about migration, sanctuary, chosen family, and belonging, they center tenderness and care in their approaches to imagemaking, and honor the places we find home.
