Visual storytelling to advance social justice

Visual storytelling is filled with possibility–to see through someone else’s lens, speak across difference, and connect with our shared humanity. Your support makes it possible to challenge dominant narratives and amplify independent and nuanced voices from around the world.

Magnum Foundation is a non-profit, and our support comes directly from individuals and foundations. There are many ways to contribute to the Magnum Foundation team and help propel the work we do. We welcome your gift and service at any level.

Circle of Friends

For me, its focus on funding underrepresented communities and stories makes Magnum Foundation the most important grant making institution in the photography world. It’s a deeply worthy cause.
— Peter van Agtmael, MF board

The Circle of Friends was an idea conceived around a dinner table by a group of Magnum Foundation’s earliest supporters. The Circle of Friends has grown steadily over the years, and with it, so too have the occasions for our members to gather.

Join the Circle of Friends by making a donation of $1,000 or above. From unique salons and artist receptions to book launches and private tours, you will enjoy special invitations throughout the year and opportunities to meet and engage with dedicated documentary photographers.

Intern with Us

I learned so much by working side by side with the Magnum Foundation team and felt like I was contributing to something much larger than myself. Its a special place doing not only important, but truly groundbreaking things.
— Diane Marshall

Magnum Foundation partners with schools and other institutions that provide funding and/or academic credit for interns. If you are enrolled in a program that offers college credit and/or a stipend, you are welcome to apply for internships in any of our listed departments. All interns will have access to a range of enrichment activities, including visits to relevant cultural and industry events around New York City, opportunities to share personal work and receive critical feedback from the team, and the chance to pitch and curate film screenings hosted at the office.

Applications are received on a rolling basis. Please send a resume/CV and a cover letter to Africia Heiderhoff at africia@magnumfoundation.org that states your institutional support, your availability, and why you are interested in interning at the Magnum Foundation.
