CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

Magnum Foundation Fund: US Dispatches

Brendan Hoffman

Brendan Hoffman

This fall, Magnum Foundation is supporting short-term visual projects responding to stories and issues related to the 2020 US elections. We are seeking to expand perspectives on this critical moment in US history through the lenses of independent, diverse, community-based, innovative visual storytellers. Our intention in supporting short-term projects is to see them published and/or distributed in order to add to public understanding of our contemporary moment.

Up to ten projects will receive $1,500 in direct funding, editorial support, and publication opportunities. Photographers should pitch stories that they already have access to and can produce safely and with a quick turnaround time.

We are especially interested in topics related to current political and social movements in the US, including but not limited to the list below.

  • Voting access and voter suppression

  • The eviction crisis and voting

  • Disenfranchisement and criminal justice

  • Immigrant, refugee, diaspora communities voting/organizing

  • Movements for racial justice

  • Community responses to police violence

  • COVID and the healthcare crisis

  • Education and schooling in the time of COVID

We encourage photographers to submit stories on other topics that they see as relevant to their communities.

This call will be open to the first 200 applications. In order to apply, photographers should submit their story pitches and samples of prior work through Magnum Foundation’s Submittable system by Wednesday September 23, 2020 at midnight EST.
