Join us at the International Center of Photography for the opening of Magnum Foundation fellow Andrea Hernández Briceño’s Fire Becomes Spirit in the ICP Incubator Space. The project was developed in Magnum Foundation’s Photography Expanded: Heat fellowship.
Hernández Briceño worked closely with members of the indigenous Huöttöja community in the Amazon basin in Venezuela who feel the pull of the mining industry, which promises to make them rich but threatens to dilute their culture. Her body of work reflects Huöttöja spirituality and its main goal: to show us that humans are not separate from nature, but an extension of it.
Hernández Briceño will be in conversation with Sara Ickow, ICP’s Associate Director of Exhibitions, followed by an opening reception in the ICP Incubator Space. This program is being offered both in person at ICP, located on NYC's Lower East Side, and online. Tickets to attend the conversation online are free.
